Book Launch Celebrates 50 Years of Educational and Cultural Service by Pakistani Community Forum Halqa e Ahbab Qatar

A 187-page Urdu publication “Regzar Kay Chiragh” (Lamps in the Desert), documenting nearly five decades of educational, cultural, and social contributions of Pakistani community's Forum 'Halqa e Ahbab Qatar', was launched recently at the Friends Cultural Centre in Doha.

Authored by Zahid Hussain Awan, a distinguished Pakistani banker who served in Qatar for more than four decades, the book chronicles the achievements, milestones, and enduring legacy of the Qatar-based Pakistani expatriate forum. It highlights the organization’s role in promoting intellectual growth, cultural preservation, and social development among members of the Pakistani community while paying tribute to the many individuals who helped shape its remarkable journey.

The launch ceremony was attended by Mrs. Attiya Iqbal, Chargé d’Affaires of Pakistan; Owais Ahmad, Counsellor at the Embassy of Pakistan; Nadeem Qureshi, President of Halqa e Ahbab Qatar; Qaiser Anwar, President of Pakistan Welfare Forum Qatar; Feroz Khan Afridi, President Pak Pushto-Adabi Taulna; Saif U Rahman, founder member of the forum and Qatar Radio FM 107 personality; Anwar Ali Rana, Chairman of Sohni Dharti Al Khor; community leaders, forum members, and distinguished guests. The event was conducted by Engineer Muhammad Ibrahim.

Congratulating the author, Mrs. Attiya Iqbal praised his efforts in preserving the rich history and services of Halqa e Ahbab Qatar. She commended the forum’s diverse educational, cultural, and social initiatives and its meaningful role in enriching the lives of overseas Pakistanis through community engagement, cultural preservation, and social harmony.

Speaking on the occasion, Zahid Hussain Awan described the book as a heartfelt tribute to the personalities who served the community through the platform of Halqa e Ahbab Qatar. Having been associated with the organization in various capacities, he said the publication is more than a collection of memories; it is a living record of dedication, service, and cultural continuity aimed at inspiring future generations.

Saif U Rahman shared insights into the formation of the forum and its founding objectives, emphasizing character building, constructive citizenship, and sincere service to the community. He highlighted the organization’s commitment to helping members become responsible contributors to both the Pakistani community and Qatari society.

Reviewing the publication, Dr. Muhammad Iqbal described “Regzar Kay Chiragh” as an important historical record that comprehensively documents the forum’s educational, cultural, and social contributions. He noted that such literary efforts encourage reading, stimulate intellectual curiosity, and help preserve community heritage for future generations.

Qaiser Anwar praised the author for meticulously documenting the history and accomplishments of Halqa e Ahbab Qatar, describing the forum as a vibrant platform for intellectual and cultural exchange among the Pakistani diaspora in Qatar.

Rana Anwar Ali highlighted the enduring value of books as custodians of civilization and collective memory. He observed that the publication successfully illuminates the lives and contributions of individuals who rendered remarkable services through the forum and paid tribute to Zahid Hussain Awan for his contribution to literary and cultural heritage.

Dr. Ammar Zahid spoke about the forum’s achievements and reiterated the principle of “Khair-un-Naas man Yanfa-un-Naas” (The best among people are those who benefit humanity) as a guiding force behind its activities. Feroz Khan Afridi also commended the author for preserving five decades of community service and achievements.

In his concluding remarks, Nadeem Qureshi thanked the guests, speakers, and audience for their participation. The event concluded with a collective dua and refreshments.

The book’s final chapter, “Memorable Moments,” features a pictorial gallery showcasing significant events and milestones from the past five decades, offering readers a visual journey through the rich history and enduring legacy of Halqa e Ahbab Qatar.
