Bishkek, 01 Sept. 2026

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit concluded in Bishkek with member states adopting the Bishkek Declaration, reaffirming their commitment to regional peace, stability, security and economic cooperation.

The summit also marked the organization’s 25th anniversary and provided an opportunity for its leaders to review the SCO’s progress while discussing emerging regional and global challenges.

For Pakistan, the summit carried particular significance as Islamabad is set to host the SCO summit in 2027. The upcoming gathering is expected to provide Pakistan with an important opportunity to showcase its role within the organization and promote greater regional cooperation, connectivity and economic partnerships.

The SCO has increasingly focused on strengthening practical cooperation among its members, particularly in trade, transportation, energy and digital development. With its diverse membership and growing regional influence, the organization has emerged as an important platform for dialogue at a time of changing global dynamics.

The Bishkek summit therefore served not only as a commemoration of the SCO’s 25-year journey but also as a renewed expression of the member states’ determination to deepen cooperation.

The decision to hold the 2027 summit in Islamabad further underlined Pakistan’s active engagement with the organization and its broader role in promoting regional dialogue and understanding.
