Qatar and Uzbekistan have taken a significant step toward strengthening their cultural relations with the signing of a five-year cooperation agreement between Qatar Museums and Uzbekistan’s Art and Culture Development Foundation (ACDF).

The agreement provides a long-term framework for expanding collaboration in a range of cultural fields, including joint research, artistic initiatives, professional development and the preservation of cultural heritage. It is expected to create new avenues for cultural institutions and creative professionals from both countries to exchange knowledge, expertise and experiences.

The agreement was signed in Tashkent by Qatar’s Minister of International Cooperation and Qatar Museums board member Dr. Mariam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad and ACDF Chairperson Gayane Umerova.

The partnership forms part of Qatar’s broader cultural diplomacy efforts and is being pursued within the framework of the Years of Culture initiative, which seeks to build lasting connections between nations through cultural exchange and people-to-people engagement.

Beyond exhibitions and artistic activities, the new cooperation places particular emphasis on developing human capital and supporting the creative economy.

Through joint programmes, research initiatives and professional development opportunities, the two sides aim to provide artists, researchers, cultural specialists and other creative professionals with greater opportunities to collaborate internationally.

Qatar Museums Chairperson Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani underlined the importance of investing in people through culture. She noted that meaningful cultural partnerships are not limited to preserving the past but also help nurture talent and create opportunities for future generations.

The agreement is therefore being viewed as more than an institutional arrangement between two cultural bodies. It reflects a shared understanding that heritage, creativity and professional skills can serve as powerful bridges between societies.

For Uzbekistan, known for its rich history and cultural heritage along the ancient Silk Road, the partnership offers opportunities to further connect its cultural institutions and creative community with Qatar’s expanding international cultural network. For Qatar, it adds another important dimension to its efforts to promote cultural dialogue and international cooperation.

The five-year partnership is expected to facilitate a sustained programme of exchanges and projects, helping build stronger institutional links while encouraging greater interaction between cultural professionals from Qatar and Uzbekistan.

The initiative ultimately highlights the growing role of culture in strengthening bilateral relations, fostering mutual understanding and creating practical opportunities for cooperation beyond traditional diplomatic channels.
