US President Donald Trump announced that a peace agreement has been finalized between the United States and Iran, describing the development as a significant diplomatic breakthrough.
In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump stated that the agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran had been completed and extended congratulations to all parties involved.
He also announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping and authorized the immediate removal of the US naval blockade. Trump said the move would allow global maritime traffic to resume normally and facilitate the uninterrupted flow of oil through one of the world's most important waterways.
Pakistan PM Says US-Iran Peace Deal to Be Signed in Switzerland
Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the peace agreement between the United States and Iran is scheduled to be formally signed during an official ceremony in Switzerland on Friday.
In a post on X, Sharif said that following extensive negotiations, both countries had reached a peace agreement and agreed to an immediate and permanent end to military operations across all fronts, including in Lebanon.
The Pakistani premier thanked both the United States and Iran for their commitment to pursuing a diplomatic resolution to the conflict. He also expressed appreciation for the mediation efforts of the leadership of Qatar, as well as the contributions made by Saudi Arabia and Türkiye in supporting the peace process.
According to Sharif, mediators will facilitate a series of meetings throughout the week. These discussions are expected to lay the groundwork for technical consultations ahead of the formal signing ceremony in Switzerland.
