Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani led Qatar’s delegation at the Lucerne Lake Summit and the inaugural meeting of the High-Level Committee, which brought together representatives of the United States, Iran, Qatar, and Pakistan. The meeting was attended by senior officials, including US Vice President J.D. Vance, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

Addressing the gathering, Sheikh Mohammed described the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran as a significant diplomatic achievement resulting from months of intensive mediation efforts. He expressed hope that the agreement would mark a turning point away from escalation and confrontation, paving the way for greater stability, restraint, and security across the region.

He commended US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian for their leadership and commitment throughout the process. He also acknowledged the contributions of Vice President J.D. Vance, Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and US Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, whose efforts helped bring the agreement to fruition.

The Prime Minister further expressed Qatar’s appreciation to Pakistan, particularly Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, for their leadership and active role in advancing the mediation initiative. He highlighted the close partnership between Qatar and Pakistan in supporting diplomacy, easing tensions, and helping achieve this milestone.

Sheikh Mohammed noted that the conflict’s impact has extended far beyond the region, affecting global trade, energy markets, and economic stability. He pointed to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz as a clear example of how regional tensions can have worldwide consequences, stressing that safeguarding this vital waterway is a shared international responsibility.

Reflecting on the challenges of recent months, he emphasized Qatar’s longstanding commitment to dialogue as the most effective path to lasting security. He expressed hope that the agreement would create opportunities for development, cooperation, and prosperity for countries and their peoples.

The Prime Minister underscored that the memorandum of understanding represents not an end, but the beginning of a broader process. He highlighted the importance of the technical negotiations launched during the summit, which will focus on translating commitments into practical outcomes and maintaining the momentum achieved.

Reaffirming Qatar’s commitment to diplomacy, Sheikh Mohammed said the country would continue working with international partners to strengthen trust, uphold international law, and promote solutions that advance peace, security, and prosperity regionally and globally.
