The Ministry of Interior (MOI) of State of Qatar announced today that competent authorities are continuing investigations into the incident at a factory in Ras Laffan Industrial City, caused by a technical malfunction during operations.
The investigation aims to determine the exact technical causes and ensure appropriate legal and technical measures are taken.
The incident resulted in 13 fatalities and 66 injuries involving individuals of various nationalities. Following the incident, MOI said, security authorities and emergency response teams in Ras Laffan Industrial City implemented approved emergency procedures.
The injured were transported for medical treatment, and search operations at the site were completed. The Ministry confirmed that no leak posing a risk to public safety or the environment was detected.
MOI extended its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
QatarEnergy confirms that there was an operational incident during the start-up of operations at Ras Laffan Industrial City which resulted in an explosion and fire at Barzan local gas supply facility in the evening hours of Sunday 21 June 2026.
Emergency response teams were deployed immediately to contain the fire, which is now under control.
