The second and final day of the 18th BRICS Summit concluded in New Delhi on Sunday with leaders calling for stronger cooperation, inclusive global growth, conflict prevention and a more representative international order.

Hosted by India at Bharat Mandapam under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” the summit marked India’s fourth BRICS chairship, following its earlier presidencies in 2012, 2016 and 2021. Since assuming the 2026 chair on January 1, India has organised more than 350 meetings and high-level events across 25 cities, focusing on political and security cooperation, economic and financial collaboration, and cultural and people-to-people ties.

BRICS members opposed unilateral and secondary sanctions, saying such measures could negatively affect economic development, food security, health and human rights. They also expressed concern over unilateral tariffs, non-tariff barriers and protectionist policies that disrupt international trade and global supply chains.

On the sidelines, Modi held bilateral meetings with leaders including South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr and other Asian and African leaders, underlining India’s wider diplomatic outreach.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also used the summit to stress Tehran’s determination to defend its national rights while maintaining that Iran does not seek war. During a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, he called for stronger solidarity among Muslim countries and greater regional cooperation without outside interference.

Anwar condemned US and Israeli attacks on Iran and reaffirmed Malaysia’s respect for Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Both sides also discussed expanding cooperation in trade, education and other sectors.

Separately, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed regional developments by telephone, stressing the need to prevent further escalation and sustain diplomatic efforts for regional stability.

Pezeshkian also met Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the summit as Iran continued efforts to strengthen relations with neighbouring countries.

The two-day summit concluded with BRICS reaffirming its growing role in global governance, economic cooperation, multilateralism and efforts toward peaceful resolution of international conflicts.
